According to investigations, the French company signed, in March of this year, a franchise agreement with Electra Consumer Products´ company , owned by the Israeli holding company Elco Ltd., so that in its more than 150 stores the logo and products of the Carrefour brand appear.
Several of these stores are located in Israeli settlements, illegal under international law as they are on Palestinian territory, while another subsidiary of the Elco group, Electra Ltd., builds and maintains infrastructure, transport, water and telecommunications networks for the Israeli army and administration in its colonization activities.
Electra Ltd. appears on the UN list of 2020 as one of the 112 companies involved in the occupation of Palestine, which for the denouncing organizations means that, with the signed agreement, ‘Carrefour ignores its French and international legal and ethical obligations to respect human rights’.
They therefore called for ‘Carrefour to end this partnership in accordance with its obligations, and for the French government to reinforce its recommendations to companies on the legal and reputational risks they undertake by associating themselves with the agreement’.
