The National Nurses Union (Sinae Afines) Secretary-General Lenín Hernández revealed that at the CCSS´ extraordinary meeting – held on Monday as deadline for deciding on the salary increase expired – its members strongly rejected the motion sent by the Executive Branch, with two votes in favor and seven against.
On September 15, CCSS´ Board of Directors agreed to the salary increase since 2020, but CCSS´ President Rodrigo Chaves opposed and claimed that wherher this agreement was not reversed, he would dismiss some CCSS´ directors.
In response, Costa Rica´s health sector unions asked the CCSS to defend this salary adjustment, and one of them stated that failure to comply with such a decision would violate collective bargaining and International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions.
