Indonesian president builds up earthquake evacuation

Jakarta, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Tuesday ordered to build up corresponding evacuation of victims of the earthquake that killed 103 people in the city of Cianjur on Monday, according to official figures.

During a his visit to affected areas, the president decreed the mobilization of the national agencies for Disaster Mitigation (BNPB) and Search and Rescue, the Police, the Defense Forces and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, among other agencies, according to Antara news.

After offering his deepest condolences for the victims, Widodo reaffirmed the significance of building new houses with seismic-resistant standards given the frequency of this type of natural events.

On the other hand, the Indonesian Navy deployed 400 Marine Corps members to aid the evacuation and search process for victims, as well as the repair of ravaged facilities and infrastructure including communication networks and roads.

Similarly, the Army sent 1,000 troops to Cianjur and announced that it will cooperate with medical and health service staff, logistics and transportation, and engineering units.

Given the number of injuries, Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini urged to set up huge tents for health care service.

The National Agency for Disaster Mitigation reported death toll was 103 on Tuesday, from initial wrong reports of 162 deaths, Antara news reported.
