WPC to be called to play mobilizing role ahead of humankind situation

Hanoi, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Socorro Gomes, President of the World Peace Council (WPC), said on Tuesday his organization is being called to play a unifying and mobilizing role ahead of the historical humankind crossroads.

The spirit of unity and initiative are features that should distinguish WPC´s work to open a clear avenue in the fight for world peace, which is the struggle against imperialism, she stressed at the opening ceremony of the 22nd WPC Assembly.

Gomes recalled that six years ago, as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, a face-to-face meeting was unabled to be held, indicating that the one opened on Tuesday takes place amid a situation marked by worsened social issues and threats to the peace and security of the peoples.

We begin this Assembly with more determination to fight, she said before urging participants to join efforts and unleash powerful moves capable of defeating the warmongering and retrograde forces that threaten to destroy great achievements of humanity.

Socorro Gomes also considered that a change is taking place in the correlation of international forces, by creating a much more favorable context to develop an anti-imperialist struggle.

Plus, she expressed confidence that this forum will define a strategic direction and an effective plan of action to renew and improve WPC´s work and actively contribute to efforts aimed at preventing conflicts, preventing the arms race and promoting respect for the principles of international law.
