Former Colombian president calls for equity to achieve peace

Bogota, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) Former Colombian President Ernesto Samper (1994-1998) said on Wednesday that equity between men and women is imperative to achieve total peace in his country and in the world.

In this regard, he affirmed that the Mujer Mariposa (Butterfly Woman) project is inextricably linked to the search for peace in Colombia, where the government of Gustavo Petro is making all its efforts.

Those yellow butterflies that fly in the books of (Gabriel) Garcia Marquez, symbolize the incessant search for peace with the light and the sky of the Caribbean, Samper said from Spain, where he will participate in the 4th Mujer Mariposa International Forum.

The Fundacion Ibero-Americana Mujer Mariposa will arrive in the European nation to give continuity to the Global Equity and Peace narrative that was developed during the 5th World Summit on Governance and Democracy, held in Colombia.

The Global Peace Index will be one of the points of analysis at the 4th Mujer Mariposa International Forum, to be held in the Spanish Senate, in the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

This index will be contrasted with the indicators of violence against women, and the public policies implemented by the Ibero-American States to protect the fundamental rights of women in all social strata will be analyzed.
