Spain´s former president send message opposing gender violence

Madrid, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Former Spanish President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Thursday used his message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to make a special appeal to men.

Through the Club de Madrid, a platform of which he is member, Rodriguez Zapatero called for treating women well and respecting them. This is an appeal to men, so that they show affection, empathy, closeness and solidarity with so many women who have long suffered from worldwide.

Zapatero described violence against women as the most unjust and repugnant thing activity.

Gender violence was a top-priority issue under the Zapatero administration to the point that the comprehensive law against gender violence was the first to be presented to Congress and later passed unanimously.

If recent history teaches us a lesson, it is precisely that feminism is undoubtedly the most transformative leverage, Zapatero pointed out.

Izquierda Unida (IU), on the other hand, unveiled its traditional Manifesto prepared at the federal level by its Feminist Network and focused this year on the idea of “Feminist alliances against male violence.”
