Knowledge is considered as vital tool for Cuba’s development

Havana, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) Knowledge, science, technology and innovation are nowadays pivotal tools to progress in the country's development, said Cuba's Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 20th Scientific Conference on Engineering and Architecture at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), Chapman pointed out that to achieve sovereignty, prosperity and sustainability it is essential set policies, programs and projects.

Cuba has six strategic supports that are expressed in macro-programs and projects to be used to seek a way out of issues already identified.

It is vital, she emphasized, that engineers, who often take on management positions and are placed in charge of projects, be well trained.

There is a macro infrastructure program that includes five programs and 11 projects, including computerization and telecommunications, transport and logistics, development of sanitary and hydraulic infrastructure, metrology and standardization.

Cuba is presently working on a macro-program called Natural Resources and Environment, which consists of two programs: ¨Implementation of the National Environmental Strategy¨ and ¨Confronting Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction¨.
