China: authorities criticize arbitrariness in the fight against Covid

Beijing, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) Chinese health authorities criticized and demanded to stop arbitrary measures such as prolonged confinement and too many restrictions on mobility, applied in various parts of the country to contain Covid-19 and causing discomfort.

Mi Feng, spokesman for the National Health Commission, called for the lifting of control measures in a timely manner to minimize the inconveniences in the daily life of citizens.

Cheng Youquan, from the Administration of Disease Control and Prevention, made a similar statement and also explained that some regions, without obtaining permission, maintained confinements and restrictions in residential areas for too long.

He acknowledged the negative impact of these policies on people’s lives and work.In addition to the said inconveniences, they also caused anxiety.

Cheng reported on the deployment of supervisors throughout China to correct the controversial measures and respond to problems raised by society.

He also unveiled a new scheme to increase vaccination among the elderly and the rest of the country’s inhabitants, with 90,2% of individuals fully immunized.

Cheng also underlined, that in Beijing, the capital of China,a 24-hour notice must be given when confinements will be applied and lifted restrictions on mobility in almost a hundred areas classified as high risk of transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of Covid-19.
