Cuban Ambassador in Damascus Miguel Porto ratified that his country’s position on the Palestinian cause has historically demanded compliance with international legality and with Resolution 242 of 1967, which obliges Israel to withdraw from Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
He criticized the complicit silence with Israel on the part of the United States and the fact that the United Nations Security Council does not pronounce itself and does not condemn the escalation of Israel’s violence that is repeated almost daily against Gaza and East Jerusalem.
Likewise, Palestinian Ambassador Samir Al-Rifai affirmed that celebrating this day is a reminder of the injustice committed by these countries against his people.
The day’s activities were attended by the leaders of Palestinian groups based in Damascus, Syrian Government officials, ambassadors, intellectuals, and people in general.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was adopted and organized by the United Nations, and its activities take place on November 29 every year.
