Angolan president defends municipalities’ empowerment

Luanda, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) President João Lourenço on Thursday expressed the will to empower municipalities in Angola as of the decentralization of state management and the management of financial resources.

Lourenço promised that the General State Budget for 2023 and the following years would increase the administrative and financial deconcentration to provide municipalities with the capacity of responding to the needs of citizens and businesses.

In his opening speech at the Forum of Municipalities and Cities of Angola, the head of State acknowledged the responsibility of the Executive and the State’s leadership after receiving support from citizens in the August 24 general elections.

The vote of confidence in the ballot boxes, to continue leading the country’s fates, is an incentive to work with more audacity and perspicacity in searching for solutions to the populations´ problems, he said.

The president also stated that it obliges improving the communication and interrelation with the municipalities, civil society, churches, and private companies so that their proposals can contribute to social peace and socio-economic development of the communities.

He pointed out that decentralization must encourage territories’ efforts to increase tax revenues, goods and services production, and employability.
