Cuban recalls Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer

Havana, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto on Monday recalled Brazilian Architect Oscar Niemeyer, on the tenth anniversary of the death of this Brazilian creator, who was a great friend of Cuba.

This is what the president of the Havana-based cultural institution Casa de las Americas wrote on his official Twitter account. He also recalled Niemeyer’s friendship with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The dazzling work and the firmness and coherence with which this architectural genius defended his principles made him an eternal presence among us, Prieto said.

Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (December 15, 1907 – December 5, 2012) is internationally known for his monumental designs, with wide curves and generous spaces.

He was also noted for his political strength and his communist membership, which he defended until the end of his days.
