Jamaican sprinter gets first vote in Prensa Latina poll

Havana, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on Wednesday received her first vote in the traditional Prensa Latina poll to choose the best Latin American athletes of the season.

Fraser-Pryce, world champion in the 100-meter dash, got support from Tele-system channel 11, of the Dominican Republic, to make her debut in a list headed by Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas, with 11 votes.

Tele-system chose the baseball player from Quisqueyano Jeremy Peña in the men’s category, who reached five votes and was one behind the current leader, Brazilian hurdler Alison dos Santos.

Finally, the Caribbean media supported the Colombian women’s indoor soccer team, the incumbent world champion, in the collective sports category, thus winning five votes.

Argentina’s men’s basketball team leads this category with seven votes.

The voting period will close on December 22 and the results will be announced one day later.

Votes from the media -radio, television and print media- (not personal) can be sent to the following e-mail address:
