According to this ministry, the agenda includes discussions on regional and international security and the strengthening of defense cooperation, among other issues of mutual interest.
Founded in 2001, the SCO is composed by China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iran began the process of joining the organization in 2021, and Belarus this year.
Meanwhile, the CIS is integrated by former Soviet republics, with the exception of the three Baltic republics (Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia), Ukraine and Georgia.
