López Obrador will receive Biden US officials on the 12th

Mexico City, Dec 9 (Prensa Latina) United States government officials will visit Mexico next Monday for the 200th anniversary of bilateral relations, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced today.

In his morning press conference, the president said he will receive them, and there will be no morning conference because it is celebrated on the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe when an estimated 12 million pilgrims will visit the basilica.

He said the delegation sent by President Joe Biden will be attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will announce in the next few hours who will be attending the meeting for the 200 years of official diplomatic ties established on December 12, 1822.

In another part of his speech, he admitted there were errors in the proposal to reform the secondary electoral laws, debated yesterday in the Chamber of Deputies and returned by the Senate, where he had taken turns when errors were detected.

The Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, explained during the presidential conference what were the errors contained in the reform proposal called Electoral Plan B.

He recognized these are unconstitutional additions. The error was recognized and the approach has been made to the presidents of the Political Coordination Board and of the Senate commissions, so that they modify the minutes.

He stressed that the senators would try to vote on the reform between Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.

The errors have to do with the percentage of votes that a party must have to preserve its registration and the destination of public financing surpluses that political forces will have in a fiscal year. López Hernández said due to an error in the final ruling, the parties could keep their registration if they obtain 3.0 percent of the vote in 17 local elections.

He pointed out that the initiative did not include the possibility that the political forces could dispose of their public financing surpluses the following fiscal year and those resources would be returned to them.
