Chinese capital reports rise in fever cases

Beijing, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in the capital of China reported on Monday that there has been a sharp increase in fever cases in the city in the past week, something they blamed on the spread of the new Covid-19 outbreak.

According to the Beijing Health Commission, 22,000 patients with fever and 19,000 with flu symptoms have been reported since December 5, but more and more citizens are consulting emergency hotlines for help.

However, the commission urged the population to only resort to emergency services and visit hospitals when there are truly serious conditions, after reminding them that moderate and asymptomatic Covid-19 patients can recover at home.

It said that they are working on a stable supply of antigen tests, antipyretics, and the most demanded medicines to treat this pathology and the common influenza since they appear in a similar way.

It also promised to strengthen the offensive against pharmacies that are indiscriminately raising the prices of the most demanded medicines at present.

Since last week, China has been taking steps to simplify its strategy to fight Covid-19 in order to ensure socioeconomic development and eradicate controversial practices that have caused unrest among the population and unleashed unprecedented protests.

In this context, the end of mass lockdowns, of PCR tests for access to any public place, except for schools, healthcare centers, and nursing homes, as well as the possibility of quarantine at home, were decreed.

At the same time, however, there have been reports of an increasing number of sick people and long queues at health centers, to the point that the country decided to set up more fever clinics to reserve hospitals only for seriously ill people.
