Cuba seeks solutions for energy stability in 2023

Electricidad
Havana, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) Following an unstable energy period in generating power nationwide, Cuba is presently seeking actions to fully recover in 2023 and move on sustainability, the Cuban Energy and Mines Minister Vicente La O reported on Monday.

At the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), La O explained some strategies to face up difficulties experienced back in 2022, as the new photovoltaic park was recently ravaged.

Due to different causes, just 37% of the installed capacity contributed to the national grid, providing up to 10-hour power outage per day.

La O specified the line of work contemplated staggered missions to gradually recover power to the grid, so that power outages would gradually decrease.

The minister remarked that, nevertheless, Cuba´s power future lies in renewable energy sources (RES), and particularly in solar photovoltaic power, for which reason tax benefit policies are being drawn up.

He also stated that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, tightened with manifold coercive measures since 2019, continues to create difficulties in getting foreign currency, purchase of fuels, equipment and spare parts.
