El Salvador: FMLN rules out an alliance with the right

San Salvador, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) ratified its principled position by ruling out alliances with right-wing political forces for the 2024 elections.

The FMLN will participate “in all the electoral political events that will be called next year in our country, both at the municipal, parliamentary, Central American Parliament and Presidency levels, we will be there giving the fight,” said its general secretary, Oscar Ortiz.

The delegates to the Convention ratified that the organization hopes to hold its own internal elections and then contest the polls in 2024, .

Ortiz pointed out that they will be respectful of the constitutional processes and censured the coalition’s idea of staying with the same candidate for two consecutive periods, something that until recently was in violation of the Constitution.

Speaking on the same issue, Lourdes Argueta, organization secretary of the FMLN, ratified that the resolution adopted at this Sunday’s 52nd Ornidanry National Convention “will have a very transcendental meaning due to the political context of El Salvador.”

She emphasized that this is dangerous, because of the high level of confusion that could be created, if they go to the next elections in alliances with right-wing parties such as Arena and other sectors of the oligarchy in El Salvador.

She pointed out that the FMLN maintains its “commitments to the people and we will continue fighting to contribute to the great transformations of the country, and we will do it with dignity and solvency, aware that it will not be easy, but neither will it be impossible.”
