Blockade and subversion persist in US Cuba policy

Havana, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Wednesday that the blockade and support for subversion are the fundamental characteristics of relations with the United States.

The president added that in 2022, the punitive economic, financial, and commercial measures continued to be used as a coercion weapon and an obstacle to the country’s development.

Speaking at the end of the 10th Ordinary Session of the National People’s Power Assembly, Diaz-Canel said that at this stage, the US Government has been tolerant of those who from its territory guide, finance, and train individuals to commit violent acts against Cuba.

He added that in a new action that shows the interests of the current administration, Cuba was included in a list of governments that, according to Washington, pursue religiosity despite signs that point to the contrary.

Diaz-Canel stressed that during this stage, very discreet steps have been taken on issues such as compliance with the migration agreements and other priorities of common interest for both countries.

He spoke about the aid offered by the United States during the disasters at the Matanzas supertanker base and Hurricane Ian in Pinar del Rio, which was accepted by the Cuban Government as it was provided unconditionally.

Diaz-Canel ratified that, regarding bilateral relations, the goal of the Cuban Governent is to make progress in a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship in accordance with international law and sovereignty.
