In announcing the asylum request, the new Peruvian Governor Dina Boluarte said that the Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi told her that the pre-trial accusations of alleged corruption of Castillo’s wife, Lilia Paredes, and his putative daughter, Yenifer Paredes, are not obstacle for asylum.
The asylum was considered pertinent by the left-wing congressman Flavio Cruz, spokesman of the Peru Libre party.
Even the right-wing lawmaker Enrique Wong stated that even though Castillo´s relatives involved have to answer to justice, but for the sake of harmony and to avoid confrontations, let them leave, let them go to asylum’.
In statements aired on local television, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced the asylum, which includes castillo´s two other sons.
