Venezuelan triple jumper leads Prensa Latina poll

Havana, Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas is leading the traditional Prensa Latina poll to choose the best athletes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The champion and universal record holder in the triple jump added the vote of the Dominican newspaper Vanguardia del Pueblo, with which she reached 20 points and consolidated her leadership in the women’s section.

In the men’s category, Vanguardia del Pueblo chose Brazilian hurdler Alison Dos Santos, who also tops the list, in his case with 11 preferences.

By teams, the newspaper preferred the Brazilian women’s volleyball team, runner-up in the world, in a list dominated so far by the Argentinean men’s basketball team and the Colombian women’s futsal team, both with eight votes.

Meanwhile, the newspaper Primicias, also from the Dominican Republic, gave its vote to the athletes from Quisqueyano: baseball player Albert Pujols, volleyball player Bethania de la Cruz, and the women’s team, in that order.

The poll is entering its last week, as the deadline for casting votes will close on December 22 and the results will be announced one day later.

Votes from the media -radio, television and print media- (not personal) can be sent to the following e-mail address: deportes@prensa-latina.cu.
