Sudan is alarmed by unidentified fever outbreak

Khartoum, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The detection of a dozen cases of fever with no identified cause in the northern Sudanese state of the Red Sea is causing an alarm in the medical community and the population of that territory, local television reported recently.

The patients were found in areas of the city of Port Sudan such as Kunwesani, Rifi El Ganab, and El Oleib, where emergency medicines and specialized equipment are in short supply, the sources said.

According to the Red Sea state health department, in June 2018 in Port Sudan, an outbreak of fever of an unknown ailment killed three people.

Authorities from Sudan’s Health Ministry reported recently that in various parts of the national territory the number of people with dengue and yellow fever increased, attributed to the spread of mosquitoes that transmit the diseases.

The proliferation of the harmful insects is due to floods that have occurred in Sudan in the last few days, as a consequence of persistent downpours.
