Yulimar Rojas just a step away from winning Prensa Latina Poll

Havana, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas got new votes on Wednesday in the traditional Prensa Latina Sports Poll, consolidating her position as Best Female Athlete of the Year category.

Venezuela´s Radio del Sur and Colombian newspaper ¨El Tiempo¨ bet on the phenomenal athlete.

Yulimar’s outstanding season included gold medal at the World Outdoor Championships in Eugene, United States, and at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

In the latter competition, Yulimar Rojas set a world record of 15.74m, breaking previous one (15.67m), which she had also held since the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (2021).

Thus, Roja reached 24 votes in the Prensa Latina poll and came even closer to winning the poll, as her closest rival, Peruvian walker Kimberly García, reached eight votes. In the remaining categories, El Tiempo proposed Star Footballer Lionel Messi as Best Athlete of the Year and Argentina’s soccer team as Best Team, while Radio del Sur chose Cuban judo player Andy Granda and Brazil’s beach volleyball team.

Both Messi and the Argentina squad, crowned world champions in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 a few days ago, are leading their respective divisions, with just one day left for the poll to close.

The poll will be open through December 22 and results will be announced one day later.

Votes from the media – radio, television and print media – (not personal), may be sent to the following e-mail address: deportes@prensa-latina.cu.
