Cuba to strengthen collaboration with northeastern Brazilian states

Brasilia, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes assessed the potential to develop collaboration between the Caribbean island and several northeastern Brazilian states.

According to Valdes on Twitter, during a meeting with Carlos Gabas, executive secretary of the Northeast Consortium, which groups nine states of that Brazilian region, they discussed issues such as food production, energy, tourism and culture.

The Cuban vice president arrived in the Brazilian capital on Wednesday to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his stay, the Cuban leader will hold meetings with local authorities and representatives of political parties, social movements, business people and organizations in solidarity with Cuba, among others.

The delegation includes Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal; the director of the South America Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos de Céspedes, and Cuban Chargé d’Affaires to Brazil Adolfo Curbelo.

Lula will assume the presidency of Brazil on January 1, 2023, two decades after his first victory, after defeating Jair Bolsonaro at the polls, with 50.90 percent of votes, compared to 49.10 won by his opponent.
