According to a statement from George Osborne, London Art Museum´s Chairman, it was authorized the return on loan early this some pieces pf the Parthenon Marbles. It will solve over-two-century disputes between the two countries.

However, British law prevents local art museums from handing over antiquities preserved in their collections, so contract agreed with Greece would be for a loan, whereby the Parthenon Marbles would be taken to Athens in exchange for treasures from Ancient Greece being transferred to the London Art Museum.

It is estimated the agreement would not put an end to the long-running dispute over these marbles, as Greece wants to be full legal owner of its 2,500-year-old cultural treasures. Athens believes that only a full transfer would end this disagreement.

The Greek government has claimed these pieces taken by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, in the early 19th century, when he was serving as ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, in order to recover over 75 meters of the Parthenon frieze, as well as sculptures of the tympani.
