Gustavo Petro paid tribute to Bernardo O’Higgins in Chile

Santiago de Chile, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, began his official visit to Chile by laying a wreath at the monument to the Hero of National Independence, Bernardo O'Higgins.

The tribute to the hero took place at the monument erected in the Plaza of the Citizenship, located in the Paseo de la Alameda.

The sculptural complex shows a moment of the Battle of Rancagua, which took place on October 1 and 2, 1814 and which put an end to a stage of the Chilean War of Independence and started the so-called Reconquest.

After the ceremony, the Colombian president went to La Moneda Palace escorted by lancers of the Armored Cavalry Regiment Number One.

Petro arrived at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in the early hours of Monday and will fulfill an intense agenda in this capital that includes a private meeting with his host, Gabriel Boric.
