Swiss army starts security deployment ahead of World Economic Forum

Zurich, Switzerland, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The Swiss government on Monday announced that about 5,000 troops will be deployed in Davos, south-eastern Switzerland, to support security for the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) on January 16-20.

Local authorities indicated the deployed troops were authorized to use coercive police measures to fulfill their security mission in Davos.

The number of participants to the Forum has not yet been announced, nor how many heads of state or government to attend, but it is estimated that around 2,500 presidents, companies and civil society will be present.

WEF has become famous for attracting billionaire elites and representatives of large business corporations.

According to analysts, the WEF is a mere talking shop that does not produce important changes in government policies.
