The union group supported the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and rejected the attempt of a ‘violent minority that does not accept his victory at the polls and intends to violate the rule of law’, a statement released here says.
The PIT-CNT demonstrated in response to the attempt of some two thousand supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro who the day before stormed the seats of the Government, the Congress and the Judiciary demanding a military coup.
‘We share the hope, together with the majority of the Brazilian people, that unity and peace will prevail in these moments, substantial elements so that Brazil can advance in democracy; for social justice, against hunger and for education as pointed out by President Lula’, says the trade union center. For this reason it sends all its solidarity ‘to the Brazilian people and its working class’. ‘Fascism will not pass’, the PIT-CNT concludes.
