Culture and technology alliance vies for award at World Summit

Havana, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) As an example of the effective art-technology alliance, the project Billboard of Cuban Culture: La Papeleta is competing today for the awards of the World Summit on the Information Society.

Placed in the category related to cultural diversity, identity, linguistic and local content, the initiative joins three other nominations presented by the Caribbean island to the event organized by the International Telecommunication Union.

With almost a decade in operation, La Papeleta is designed to promote and disseminate activities and events scheduled throughout the country, for all audiences, according to local newspaper Granma.

Over the years, the website has incorporated other services, such as the electronic reservation and sale of shows, which facilitates and speeds up the attendance of spectators to presentations in theaters, concert halls, exhibitions, among other alternatives.

Of the four projects nominated for the 2023 World Summit Awards, Joven Club informatizing society, developed by the Joven Club de Computacion y Electronica, also stands out, which is part of the Information and Communication Infrastructure section.

This initiative aims to contribute to the formation of technological and informatics culture in the communities, as well as to establish a network of centers to provide services, empower women and include people with disabilities and the elderly.

According to the event’s website, the program My light in the mountains, focused on eliminating the gap between the countryside and the city, with a deployment of offers in rural areas and the possibility of strengthening the link with agriculture, is also included.

The Cuban candidates are closed by the Single Window for Foreign Investment, presented by the University of Information Sciences, which focuses on the use of this platform as ‘an instrument of facilitation, dynamization of the exchange of information, reduction of time and transparency’.
