Power cuts increase in South Africa until further notice

Pretoria, Jan 12 (Prensa Latina) South Africa's state-owned power utility Eskom again implemented severe power cuts to compensate for the lack of 6,000 megawatts daily from early hours on Thursday until further notice.

Eskom stated in a communique that it would continue to manage the limited emergency generation reserves to complement the total capacity; an update will be issued as soon as there are significant changes.

According to the text, 11 generators amounting to more than 5,000 megawatts of capacity suffered breakdowns since Tuesday morning, further reducing generation.

The units affected in the last hours belong to Camden, Duvha, Grootvlei, Hendrina, and Kendal power plants; while two generators each at Kriel, Majuba, and Matla power stations are out of service, Eskom stated.
