The restrictions approved by the Bureau of Industry and Security at the US Department of Commerce against Syrian medical, educational and hospital institutions are strongly condemned, said a statement issued today by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
According to the agency, these actions prevent the sale of equipment or the provision of services, support or spare parts to a large number of Syrian public and private hospitals.
Targeting hospitals that provide medical care to millions of Syrians, including the Children’s Teaching Hospital, constitutes a hostile practice and collective punishment against the Syrian people, the Ministry explained.
It also demanded urgent action by the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to put an end to these inhumane and immoral US measures.
Syrian health authorities repeatedly denounced that the U.S. sanctions, tightened through the Caesar Act passed in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, exacerbated the suffering of Syrians and affected health care service.
