Dominican Judge varies coercive measure against Attorney General

Santo Domingo, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The judge of the Third Investigating Court of the Dominican National District on Wednesday decided whether to vary the measure of coercion issued to former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, who will be under house arrest instead of prison.

The main judge involved in the Medusa corruption case was also imposed a 50 million pesos (884,000 dollars) financial guarantee, an impediment to leaving the country, and the placement of an electronic bracelet.

During the hearing that concluded early Wednesday, the court also fixed the reading of the sentence for February 15 at 15:00 hours, local time.

Rodriguez was arrested on June 29, 2021, and has been held in the Najayo Men Correction and Rehabilitation Center in San Cristobal to serve the provisional imprisonment measure imposed at that time for 18 months, which was completed on January 8.

Yeni Berenice Reynoso, Director of Prosecution of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, stated in the trial that ruling the end of preventive detention against the former prosecutor is “anything but justice.”
