Drought affects water supply in Uruguayan cities

Montevideo, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Several Uruguayan cities are currently having difficulties with the supply of drinking water due to drought, the National Administration of State Sanitary Works (OSE) stated.

Dolores, in the Soriano department, and Costa de Oro, in the Canelones department, are the most affected cities by water shortage.

Since last week, the OSE has been urging the population to make responsible use of water so as to preserve it, due to the constant decrease in the sources used for water purification.

OSE president Raúl Montero explained that the rivers where the vital liquid is extracted from, are low and have no recharging supply.

In view of the persistent lack of rainfall, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries decided to extend the agricultural emergency until April 24 and added the poultry, beekeeping, and forestry sectors.
