Early on Wednesday, our troops drove back a massive attack launched by terrorist groups in al-Bara-Kansafra and Maarat Mohass – Al-Bureij axes in southern Idlib, the ministry said and also explained that the radicals took advantage of the fog and perpetrated their actions after heavy shelling with heavy weapons against army points in the area.
The terrorist attack lasted hours and the extremists suffered losses in military equipment and personnel, and the soldiers removed some of the bodies of the slain enemies, including their leader, and seized their weapons, concluded the Ministry in its statement.
The day before, several terrorists, comprising one with French nationality, were eliminated by Syrian army units that repelled a jihadist attack on the Jabal al-Zawieh plateau.
Radical groups entrenched in Idlib increased their attacks and violations to the regime of de-escalation zones ruling in that province.
During its operations in 2020, the national army managed to liberate 56 percent of Idlib, but the jihadists still control the rest, where they are holding hundreds of thousands of civilians as human shields.
