The National Union of Normalists criticized that the situation of teachers is increasingly difficult due to the increase in violence and fuel shortages which have caused an increase in the prices of the basic food basket.
The coordinator of the structure Josuñe Merilien deplored that in view of the situation, the Government did not adopt any measure to adjust the teachers’ fees, despite the fact that inflation exceeded 47 percent last December.
In addition, he denounced that about 500 teachers who recently joined the education sector never received salaries after months of assuming their posts.
Merilien urged the population to join his claims and demand authorities’ resignation, whom he blames for the degrading situation of the country.
The strike threat comes at a time when schools are beginning to resume their rhythm after months of political crisis, fuel shortages and a boom in violence that deprived more than four million children and young people of education.
Until last December only 70 percent of schools had started the current school year and the rates were lower in the north of the country.
