The invitation was accepted by legislators of the parties that belong to the government coalition of President Luis Lacalle Pou.
The Frente Amplio did not accept the invitation of the British Embassy to travel to the Falklands, because it understands that sovereignty of those islands is held by Argentina.
‘We are against the existence of colonies in our region, and it is one of the last colonial sites, at a very short distance from the territory and within the territorial sea of the Argentine Republic’, Frente Amplio deputy Sebastián Valdomir, explained.
‘I defend Uruguay’s historical position, since the conflict arose, but it seems to me that we cannot pretend to isolate ourselves and not accept an invitation that does not imply any conditions’, said the deputy for the Colorado party, Felipe Schipani, who will travel to the Malvinas together with three other legislators of the ruling party.
