Lula will arrive from Argentina, where he will make an official visit and participate in the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
The Brazilian president will comply with the invitation made to him by President Luis Lacalle Pou on January 1 in Brasilia, during the presidential handover ceremony.
The foreign ministries of both countries are working on the agenda of Lula’s official visit, but Lacalle Pou said that he will insist on the purpose of opening Uruguay to the world, beyond restrictions imposed by the rules of the Southern Common Market.
Topics such as trade, energy exports and the fight against drug trafficking and other security issues will be part of the conversations that both statesmen will hold at the official presidential residence of Suarez y Reyes, in this capital.
The official visit will conclude there with a meeting between delegations from both countries and a lunch, Subrayado press reported.
Lula will then visit his friend, former President José Mujica, at his farm in Rincón del Cerro, on the outskirts of Montevideo.
Mujica is preparing a proposal for Latin American integration which he wants to present to the region’s presidents, including the Brazilian one.
At the home of the former president and his wife,will also be invited, former senator Lucía Topolansky, the president of the opposition Frente Amplio, Fernando Pereira, and the president of the PIT-CNT labor union, Marcelo Abdala, .
