In a communiqué, the organization denounced the attitude of current US ambassador Mari Carmen Aponte, who walks around the country giving indications on matters that only concern Panamanians, as a violation of international norms.
It also questioned the government authorities for allowing the diplomat’s insolence.
The CNTP stated in its message that for the workers’ group the presence of Aponte is not welcome, and reminded her that ‘Panama is a sovereign and independent country, and you should know that we are not an Associated State, nor a protectorate, nor a colony, nor a neo-colony, and much less do we want to add one more star to the flag of the United States of America’, according to the statement.
It also pointed out that the workers want relations of respect with the United States, but also of recognition as a free and independent country, where several generations fought to achieve a single flag and a single territory, conquests that they will maintain over time at whatever price is necessary.
