Cuban authorities pay posthumous tribute to revolutionary

Havana, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel attended the burial of the outstanding revolutionary José Miguel Miyar Barrueco, the local press published on Monday.

The two leaders led the posthumous tribute that took place at the Pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces at Colon Cemetery in this capital on Saturday.

Commander of the Rebel Army, José Ramón Machado Ventura, was in charge of the farewell words in which he highlighted Miyar Barrueco’s brilliant service records, always in defense of the Revolution, Granma reported.

With modesty and service vocation, Miyar Barrueco was a founder of the Communist Party of Cuba, a member of the Party’s Central Committee, a lawmaker to the National Assembly of People’s Power, and held the well-deserved title of Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Machado Ventura said.

Miyar Barrueco, who died at the age of 90 last week, was a combatant of the clandestine struggle and of Column 1 of the Rebel Army.- He participated in the actions in Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) in central Cuba and devoted himself, for more than 30 years, under the direct service of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
