Lula is making an official visit in which he will meet alone with Lacalle and then both leaders will be accompanied by their ministerial delegations.
His visit is intended to ‘strengthen trade and friendship ties’, according to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in a press release.
In Montevideo City Hall the visitor will receive recognition for his environmental policy, from whose balcony he will make a public speech, for which the citizens have been summoned.
Before leaving Uruguay, Da Silva will visit former president José Mujica, who will be accompanied by his wife, former vice-president Lucía Topolansky; and the presidents of the Frente Amplio and the PIT-CNT trade union federation, Fernando Pereira and Marcelo Abad, respectively.
