Eleven police officers have been killed in Haiti this year

Port-au-Prince, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Eleven police officers have been killed in Haiti so far this year, with no end in sight to the wave of violence.

The most recent victims were six officers from the Liancourt police station, in the Artibonite department, allegedly executed by members of the Gran Grif gang operating in the area.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when officers had to repel four attacks by the gunmen as they tried to take over the place, according to news outlets.

Two other policemen were wounded in the attack.

Three officers died last week during an ambush, while another suffered injuries and a fifth is missing.

Also on January 10th, armed men opened fire in Carrefour-Feuilles, a commune of Port-au-Prince, killing two civilians and two police officers.

The coordinator of the National Union of the Haitian Police, Lionel Lazarre, reported that the incident occurred when the officers tried to carry out a routine search of a vehicle and the occupants opened fire on them, killing them instantly.
