Grenada’s new ambassador to Cuba to take office in mid-February

St. George, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Grenada seeks to advance in the procedures and complete the administrative work soon for Ambassador Glen Noel to assume as its representation in Cuba.

We hope that by mid-February he will be stationed in Havana, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell declared during the first briefing this year, following a meeting of the highest executive body of this nation.

Noel served as Minister of State in the Housing and Information ministries during the Tillman Thomas and National Democratic Congress (NDC) government from 2008 to 2013.

A former general secretary of the NDC, he is the only diplomat appointed since Mitchell took office seven months ago.

The head of Government used the session with the press to reveal that they began training several people who will soon be appointed to head the foreign service or related missions.

We have started the first round of preparation with those we intend to appoint as diplomats.

We have not announced them publicly; the initial meeting took place on Wednesday last week, he noted.

‘We are starting practically from scratch, hence the reason why we are taking our time to get it right so that people are not simply thrust into a position where they have no training and no opportunity to make sure they are clear about what we expect of them,’ he added.

Nearly 90 percent of the diplomatic passport holders were not Grenadians, had no real or significant connection to the country, nor did they reside in the country, he described.
