Russia has been hit by nine packages of regulations, which the Kremlin says are aimed at stifling it economically.
The sanctions affect, among other things, the exports of grain and hydrocarbons from the Slavic giant.
The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, is working on proposals for a tenth package of regulations which, according to the regional mechanism, could be extended to Belarus.
Within the EU, nations such as Hungary oppose the sanctions and Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that he will veto new regulations against Russian nuclear energy organisations and companies.
