The Ministry criticized the content of the communiqué issued by the representatives of these four countries after their meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, with the United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen.
Such a statement is a despicable repetition and a desperate attempt at justifying these countries’ violation of Syria’s sovereignty and their interference in its internal affairs, a Foreign Ministry statement noted.
It denounced that the text paradoxically failed to address UN Security Council Resolution 2253 on counter-terrorism and Resolution 2672, which stipulates support for early recovery projects.
Ignoring such resolutions proves that these governments’ continue supporting terrorism and obstructing the efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria, especially in the power generation sector, the Foreign Ministry pointed out.
It added that if these countries were really concerned about the humanitarian situation in Syria, they should immediately lift their inhumane and immoral unilateral coercive measures against the Syrian people.
Syria accused these four countries of backing terrorist groups with weapons and money since the outbreak of the war in 2011, in addition to providing them with political cover at international organizations.
