Ecuador government criticized for sponsoring repression in Peru

Quito, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Social organizations in Ecuador on Monday criticized the President Guillermo Lasso administration for sending tear gas grenades to Peru to continue massacre in the country.

Ecuador´s Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) claimed President Lasso is presently sponsoring repression of the Peruvian people in their protests against the Dina Boluarte government.

On Twitter, CONAIE stated how repression in Peru has left close to 60 people dead, 12,000 injured and over 2,500 detained.

International media have disclosed Peru´s National Police requested Ecuador to send back a batch of tear grenades the Ecuadorian police forces received in 2019 as a loan to respond to protests against then President Lenín Moreno.

According to digital portal La República, from Peru, the returned batch includes 4,400 37-mm tear grenades; 5,500 12-mm cartridges; 1,000 hand grenades, among other ammunition.
