The new cases correspond to six Dominicans and one Haitian, residents of Villa Liberación and Solares del Almirante, in the province of Santo Domingo, who were admitted last week after presenting watery and whitish diarrhea and vomiting.
Close relatives were vaccinated to avoid further contagion. Interventions continued in the areas to prevent the spread of the disease and investigate any suspected cases.
The Dominican Republic began vaccinating against cholera last Wednesday, two days after the arrival of a first batch of 85,000 doses purchased with the support of the Pan American Health Organization.
The country confirmed the first case of cholera last October, corresponding to a 32-year-old Haitian woman.
