Haitian Police denied accusations against its director

Port-au-Prince, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) The Haitian Police (HNP) today denied 'false accusations' circulating in social networks against the director of the institution, Frantz Elbé, although without making reference to the allegations.

According to a note from the entity, the accusations are aimed at attacking the integrity and tarnishing the image of the official, for which he called on the population to remain vigilant against such dishonest acts and to verify information from reliable sources.

In the last few weeks, rumors have grown linking the Police Director with the security company Sécurité plus, which allegedly uses armored vehicles of the PNH to help people from the private sector and the diaspora to cross areas occupied by armed gangs for fees of between 500 and three thousand dollars.

Internet users also denounced that nine other high-ranking police leaders also run private security companies, which is incompatible with law enforcement laws.

As the crisis of violence increases in the Caribbean country, there is growing criticism of Elbé’s management of the police institution, after at least 50 agents were murdered in 2022 and another 11 so far this year.

In December the director of the PNH was satisfied with the balance of the actions undertaken by the forces of order, however, his detractors recalled that more than two thousand people were killed that year and another thousand were victims of kidnapping.
