Russia considers pointless returning to Council of Europe

Alexander-Grushko-1-300x200
Moscow, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) "The Council of Europe has ceased to be a body aimed at achieving the unity of peoples, therefore it is logical for Russia to return to it," said Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.

As stated this Friday by the official to the Parliamentskaya Gazeta newspaper, the founding letter of said organization states that it seeks to achieve greater unity among the peoples of the “Old Continent”.

However, as Grushko pointed out, thanks to the efforts of a group of Western nations, the Council of Europe has become the opposite, it is a kind of dressing room of the European Union.

It was previously reported that President Vladimir Putin appointed Deputy Minister Grushko as his official representative when the parliament considered the issue of terminating Council of Europe international treaties regarding the Russian Federation.

Moscow withdrew from the entity in March of last year, as it became, according to the Foreign Ministry, an instrument of anti-Russian policy, refusing an equal dialogue and all the principles on which this pan-European structure was created.
