This was expressed by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador during his weekend tour of San Luis Potosí, according to local press media.
During his tour, the president announced an investment of 800 million euros by BMW, and affirmed that the future of the industry is in the hands of Mexican workers and the amount to be injected by the German consortium is a sign of the confidence in the country and its hard-working people.
We have a new trade agreement and this has meant for Mexico the arrival of more foreign investment, there is a record in the flow of foreign capital and we have exceptional conditions for diversification, he said.
In 2022 there was 3.0 percent growth thanks to first-class workers, a creative and responsible workforce that is not easily found elsewhere.
Accompanied by Marcelo Ebrard, head of the Foreign Affairs Secretariat, Lopez Obrador emphasized that BMW has “a very good reputation worldwide”, which is why its expansion plans in the country will be successful, as long as it maintains a policy that provides well-paying jobs.
He urged all businessmen to open new facilities and pay people fairly for their work, as this will keep the country’s doors open for their operations.
Thank you for the confidence, the investment, we are going to start with 500 jobs but we will reach a thousand and the industry treats its workers well, with fair salaries and benefits, this is what we are also looking for, that the investment flows in and that well paid jobs are generated as Mexican workers deserve.
He said that the State cannot step aside in the task of diversifying wealth, since its participation is necessary to produce, generate and contribute to the growth of the economy in all senses.
