Syria: the US is promoting the same lies with which it invaded Iraq

Damascus, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Al-Mekdad, denounced that the United States is promoting against his country the same lies it has used to invade Iraq 20 years ago.

On a day like today, 20 years ago, the then US Secretary of State Colin Powell, presented before the UN Security Council, a series of lies about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction to justify its invasion, the Foreign Minister wrote on his Twitter account.

He added that at the time, Powell presented audio recordings, satellite images, testimonies and documents, and said they were irrefutable evidence, even showing a small vial allegedly containing biological substances produced by Baghdad that could kill tens of thousands of people.

It was clear to the world that everything Powell put forward were mere lies without foundation, and he himself described what he said before the Security Council as a disgrace, the Chancellor said.

Al-Mekdad assured that today, the same manipulations, misinformation and lies are being promoted to attack Syria under a similar pretext such as the alleged possession and use of chemical weapons.

The Syrian diplomacy chief called on the world to take lessons from the past in order not to allow the US and its satellites France, UK and Germany to repeat this manipulation and prevent them from using their flimsy accusations to justify interference in the affairs of other countries.
