Ethiopia and China sign agreement for emergency food aid

Addis Ababa, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia signed an agreement with China to receive food assistance in emergency situations caused by social instability or natural disasters, the Ministry of Finance reported.

The arrangement worth 161 million birr (approximately three million dollars) was signed by the Ethiopian Minister of State for Finance, Semereta Sewasew, and the counselor of the Chinese embassy in Ethiopia, Yang Yihang.

The note states that the financial support will be used exclusively for the supply of basic food in highly complex circumstances and “will benefit people affected by conflicts and natural phenomena throughout the country.”

Sewasew and Yihang evaluated the development of commercial ties between the two nations and exchanged opinions regarding the relevance of diversifying them.

They also agreed that it is necessary to work with the objective of increasing Chinese investments in different sectors of the Ethiopian economy, in response to the interest shown by several Chinese companies.

Etiopía y China firmaron acuerdo para ayuda alimentaria de emergencia

Addis Abeba, 8 feb (Prensa Latina) Etiopía firmó un acuerdo con China para recibir asistencia alimentaria en situaciones de emergencia provocadas por inestabilidades sociales o los desastres naturales, según aseguró el ministerio de Finanza.

El arreglo, por un valor de 161 millones de birr (tres millones de dólares aproximadamente), fue rubricado por la ministra de Estado para las Finanzas etíope, Semereta Sewasew, y el consejero de la embajada china en esta capital, Yang Yihang.

La escueta nota reitera que el apoyo financiero será utilizado de manera exclusiva para el suministro de alimentos básicos en circunstancias de alta complejidad y ‘beneficiará a las personas afectadas por los conflictos y fenómenos naturales en todo el país’.

Sewasew y Yihang, apunta la comunicación ministerial, evaluaron el desarrollo de los vínculos comerciales entre ambas naciones e intercambiaron opiniones respecto a la pertinencia de diversificarlos.

Asimismo, concordaron en que es necesario trabajar con el objetivo incrementar las inversiones chinas en diferentes sectores de la economía etíope, en respuesta al interés mostrado por varias compañías chinas, agrega la notificación.
